Showing the Lows of Legal Highs

A group of Worcester Fixers have made a film looking at the ‘overlooked’ dangers associated with legal highs.

Lead Fixer Ryan Higgs (19) has seen the negative effects of synthetic drugs with friends and now wants to show their true dangers to other teenagers.

The group are particularly concerned with cannabinoids, which are chemicals that mimic the effects of cannabis- these are often known by their brand names such as Annihilation, Black Mamba and Spice to name a few.

‘I have seen my friends take them in the past and it really is scary what they can do,' says Ryan.

‘Seeing them not know where they are is quite a shocking experience, and it’s frightening to think that these can be purchased by anyone.

‘Many people think they’re safe but I think they can be more dangerous than banned substances because you just don’t know what’s in them.’

The film, which Ryan features in, shows a point of view from one man’s experience on drugs; his behaviour, his actions and how he looks.

It’s gritty and progressively distorted, showing how the world is seen by someone on drugs.

These emotions range from being happy and relaxed to getting the giggles or feeling drowsy.

From the film, Ryan hopes to raise awareness of the effects and risks of synthetic cannabis as he feels there is very little information available for young people aged 13-19 years old.

His aim is to encourage young people to make informed decisions around the choice of using these substances.

‘My Fixers experience was amazing and something I will never forget.' he adds.

‘It wasn’t easy playing someone who was taking drugs, but if the film will help others out there, it will have been a price worth paying.

‘The ideal scenario is to warn others out there to be careful with what they’re doing, because it could end badly.’

Ryan’s film will be used shown at college fairs and youth clubs.
