Self Confidence Fix On ITV

Fixer Leigh-Ann Ncube

Hoping to inspire others to feel more confident in themselves, Leigh-Ann Ncube wants young people to make education and career choices that are right for them.

Her story was shown on ITV News Anglia on Thursday 9th April.

The 23-year-old from Basildon in Essex says that as a twin, she often felt compared to her more academic sister, which influenced her decision to study A-levels.

But upon failing her first year exams, she decided to take a course that was better suited to her and now wants others her age to do the same, without feeling pressure to pursue a certain path.

‘When you’re at school, you try to follow the crowd, so a lot of the time you’re not really yourself,' explains Leigh-Ann.

‘My confidence was really low when I failed my AS exams. I cried a lot and didn’t really go out.

‘I saw myself as a failure, but everyone’s got different abilities and ways of showing their intelligence. I found that my strengths are in everything creative, especially writing.’

Leigh-Ann, who has been keeping a blog since she was 16, is now working on a Fixers campaign to empower youngsters to discover their potential.

In the broadcast, she visits a local school with Life Coach, Eve Menezes Cunningham, to share her experiences with Sixth Form students.

‘It’s always helpful for young people thinking about university and jobs to know that not everyone has to follow a precise career path,’ Eve says.

‘It’s wonderful that Leigh-Ann has turned her life around and also that she’s thinking about how she can use her experience to encourage younger people who may be struggling.’

Leigh-Ann adds: ‘I’m hoping that my project empowers more young people. We all have different strengths.

‘I found mine and I feel really good about myself. I want to encourage other people to do the same.’
