Name: Jack O’Shaughnessy
Age: 20
Year of the Fix: 2014
Location: Birmingham
Campaign: To encourage young people to use social media in a positive way

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and when it comes to music these views are often varied.

But there’s a big difference between criticism and critique and between bullying and discussion.

As a group of musicians, feedback offered online can have a real impact on us. It not only affects how we feel but also our future careers.

With Fixers, we want to look at both the positive and negative sides of social media.

We don’t want to discourage people from using the internet to share their opinions, but we do want them to think about what they’re posting.

That way, we hope that any comments made will be both helpful and appropriate.

Here is a list of Fixers helping me with my Fix:

Jamie Martin Joel Andrews Sean Percival
Lydia Decourcy Eamonn Short Jordan Barnett
Connor Scully Joshua O'Boyle Katie Silvers
Amy Walters Miguel Stone Denzel Alexander
Amann Hyatt Reuel Richard Sarah Aunmn
Conor Ward Chris Dingley Conor Tranter
Charlie Tipton Jessica Qwinn Kimberley Thompson
Raff Ali

Youth Social Action Fund

My Fixers project was supported by the Cabinet Office’s Youth Social Action Fund.

As part of the Cabinet Office initiative ‘Step Up to Serve’, which is spearheaded by HRH the Prince of Wales, Fixers is working in partnership with the Youth Social Action Fund (YSAF) to offer the Fixer experience specifically to young people aged between 16 and 20 in Birmingham and parts of Kent.

Access To Music Centre, Birmingham
Daryl Smith, our course tutor at Access to Music, supports our Fix. He’s been very helpful in coordinating with Fixers throughout our project.
