Campaign: To brighten people’s day with good gestures

You often see another side to someone when they smile.

For this reason, with the help of Fixers, my team and I led a Good Gestures Day.

The nationwide event involved giving passers-by free high-fives, hugs, fist bumps and handshakes to help brighten up their day.

The inspiration behind the campaign is Stephen Sutton, who, despite being diagnosed with incurable cancer, chose to spread happiness to others.

Even though I’m from Stirling and didn’t know Stephen personally, his story touched me emotionally and has made me want to make a difference.

Young people are often seen as troublemakers and don’t get the credit they deserve.

But when you think of people like Stephen, it just shows that we’re not all bad and some of us genuinely want to change things for the better.

Here is a list of Fixers helping me with my Fix:

Amber Soutar Andrew Robertson
Andy McLeish Chandelle Waugh
Chris Rennison Christina Bruce
Creag Thomson Danielle Muir
Dave Whitaker Glen Minto
Jenna Adair Joshua March
Kieran Monaghan Kyle Sheppard
Lindsay McIntyre Paul McKenna
Rebecca Thomson Robert Jardine
Scott Hawkyln Stephen Stuart
Stuart Gray Suzanna McCulloh
Victoria Roach

April 2014

Our National Good Gestures Day event was held in Sauchiehall Street and Buchanan Street, Glasgow city centre on Saturday 10th May.

Click here to find out more about National Good Gestures Day 2014.

Our day was fantastic and so busy - the public reaction was so positive! People loved it so much we ran out of all 300 of our stickers! We painted our faces and started a long conga line, members of the public got involved and everyone had a laugh. I hope for this campaign to get bigger and better and for people to really understand the message. You never know how someone's day is going or what's going to happen to you, it's all about living in the moment and spreading happiness.
