Campaign: To challenge negative perceptions of homelessness

I became homeless at the age of 17. It was a horrible feeling and it led to me sofa-surfing, relying on a number of different people, for around a year.

Having nowhere to call home made me feel low and I experienced depression as a result.

I’ve now got my life back on track and want to challenge misconceptions surrounding homelessness as it’s something that can happen to anyone.

With the help of Fixers, I want to urge people to see everyone as an individual and not to judge based on preconceived ideas.

Just because someone is on the street, it doesn’t make them any less of a person.

Homeless doesn’t have to mean hopeless.

Fixers Naomi Garnault and Paul Loughran are helping me with this Fix.

I've had some really encouraging feedback about my campaign and my story has even reached the United States! You can read some of these comments below:

'You are an inspirational young lady who goes out of her way to help others. Well done!'

'God bless you. You are an inspiration and life will reward you because you deserve it.'

'I took ill with depression and was off work for a long time. I was in a well paid job which paid me during part of my sickness but then the ESA kicked in. I am back at work now and working towards clearing debts I acquired while off - but it is scary how soon your comfy life can take a downwards spiral.'

'Great work young lady! People need someone to care in this harsh world.'

'Fair play to you. You deserve a better life. I hope you get what you want.'

'As a graduate it's sobering to know that homelessness is something that can impact people who you would never think would be affected by it.'

'To hear about so many homeless people in Belfast being so young is frightening. It makes me think that it could happen to people I know and it could happen to me!'

'Getting something like this on to the news is massive. People eating their dinner need to realise that this could happen to them.'
