Campaign: Raise awareness of domestic abuse

I was a victim of domestic abuse for six years and felt that I couldn’t speak to anybody about what was going on.

It was a truly awful time and affected me for a long while.

After gaining the courage to speak with somebody about what was going on, I finally managed to get my life back on track.

Now that I’ve moved on, I want to help others who might be going through what I did.

I’m making a short booklet with Fixers, which is based on my own experience.

The aim is for more victims to get the help they need and not be afraid to talk about domestic abuse.

April 2014

Feedback from my campaign has been really positive. Comments from people who have seen my booklet can be read below.

Advocacy Highland
'This booklet is very good. Thanks, it will help other young people!'

Highland Youth Convener
‘Very powerful.'

Chief Officer Youth Highland.

'I love it – we need to ensure measures are in place to support any young people who come forward for help after seeing informative material. Have teachers and youth workers etc been trained on how to deal positively with young people? We don’t want young people to get the wrong help after speaking out.'

‘Brilliant concept – looking forward to finding out more and using the leaflets at my work!'

‘Excellent idea.'

‘Really good resource.'

‘This gives a fresh insight in how to recognize domestic abuse.'

‘This will have such a positive impact.'
