Campaign: Improve road safety

I have heard stories from friends about driving, and they often tell me about their 'near misses' and even their crashes.

But rather than laugh off these stories, I began to become concerned - both for the young drivers, and the potential victims of their recklessness.

That's why I decided to join Fixers and make a short documentary about the realities of dangerous driving among young people.

Being able to drive is a great privilege, but you need to have responsibility to use this skill. Otherwise you can cause injury, harm, and even death.

Through my documentary, I hope young people consider how their behaviour affects others on the roads.

Thanks to my team:

Mike Hewitt from Greater Manchester Police:

Thank you to Mike who assisted with my film by giving his views on road safety.

Grant Mitchell from Co-op Insurance:

Grant appeared in my film to speak about the ways in which road safety can be improved.

September 2013

I attended the Fixers Road Savvy Forum in London.

It brought together Fixers, politicians, road safety experts and representatives from the emergency services.

Transport Minister Stephen Hammond and former footballer and TV presenter Gary Lineker were among those there.

The day was split into two sessions.  In the morning I took part in a workshop, discussing the key road safety issues facing young people today.

In the afternoon, a forum was held where politicians and road safety professionals were given the chance to put questions to a panel of Fixers.

Conclusions from the event are going to be presented to the Department for Transport in a ‘Fixers Green Paper’ as a contribution to the Government’s forthcoming Road Safety Green Paper.

My local MP, Julie Hilling, came by to support me as well.

Following my attendance at the Fixers Road Savvy Forum, I was featured in The Bolton News. You can read the full article by clicking here.
