Name: Conon Adamson
Age: 19
Year of the Fix: 2013
Location: Exeter
Campaign: Use football to bring young people together

Exeter is a big place and, because of this, many young people never get a chance to meet others from a different side of the city.

To tackle this, I'm organising a free five-a-side football tournament to get young people coming together.

I live in supported accommodation and it is often hard for me to participate in sports events in the city, mainly because they are not free.

I wanted to organise the tournament to kick-start community cohesion in Exeter. A lot of people do not integrate with one another, and I wanted to change that by providing something free and fun to do.

My project has a lot of supporters - including the Football League Trust and Exeter City FC - and you can find out more details about them, and my team, in the tabs above.

March 2013
The tournament took place and was a great day. Here's some feedback from those who attended:

"Thank you very much to you and all the organisers (including Conon) for the football tournament on Sunday. It was fantastic to see so many of the Foyer residents being active and out and about. Although we have some walking wounded everyone enjoyed themselves so thank you very much. I would be very keen to hear about any future events."

"What was most pleasing was the spirit in which the matches were played. Teams and referees were on the same wavelength throughout the matches and this helped everyone really enjoy themselves."

'It was a great way to get lots of young men together in a positive way. I'd be really keen to get involved in similar activities/events in the future.'

'There aren't enough free sport activities or events like this going on in Exeter. I think the number of teams that turned up for the tournament on a freezing wintry Sunday morning demonstrates the need for projects like this in the city. Conon has done a fantastic job and has brought together lots of young people that probably wouldn't normally associate.'

I also met with local Councillor Sarah Laws, who says she will help me try to gain funding for the tournament next year.
