Name: Alicia Falconer

Year of the Fix: 2016
Location: Grangemouth, Stirlingshire
Campaign: To help people understand Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

I was diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder when I was 11-years-old after suffering from panic attacks.

I made a real effort to stop the rituals, but then my grandad passed away.

I felt like it was my fault and ever since then, I’ve had this fear that if I stop, people will die.

Sometimes I think my mum will be involved in a car crash unless I tap the table a number of times.

The thoughts became so overwhelming, that I couldn’t leave the house for months to go to school.

I wasn’t well enough to sit my exams, and lost out on my dream of going to university.

I’m much better now and have found success in competing in beauty pageants, where I hope to become a campaigner on mental health.

My Fixers project is about showing that OCD is no laughing matter. People often joke that they’re ‘a bit OCD’, without realising how debilitating it is.

That’s why I’ve designed a poster, which I plan to show in doctor’s surgeries and in schools, showing how OCD had affected my life.
