Campaign: To encourage young people to follow their dreams no matter their background

I grew up in Hackney, East London.

Hearing about people being killed as a result of gang violence was a tragic reality, but something that also made me think twice about where my own life was heading.

I decided I didn't want to go down that road so I completed a degree in Community Sector Management and Law from London Metropolitan University and now work in finance.

My Fixers project is to encourage young people living in inner city areas to make positive life choices and avoid the pull of crime.

I think it’s important that others my age realise that being from a certain area doesn’t make them worthless. They can achieve anything if they put their minds to it.

For over 50 years, L&Q has been driven by its mission to create places where people want to live.  A leading housing association, it owns or manages more than 71,000 homes across London and the South East - making it one of the largest residential landlords in the capital.  L&Q invests in people and the communities it serves and over the coming year, through the L&Q Foundation, it will invest £7 million on community initiatives, helping residents improve their life chances.

L&Q is working in partnership with Fixers because we recognise the positive contribution that our young residents can and do make to their communities, and we are keen to give them the right support to do this. To see the Fixer projects we have funded to date please click on the links provided.

“Fixers is an exciting opportunity to empower young people  to make positive changes, within their communities and raise awareness of issues that affect L&Q’s young residents.” Paul Nehra, L&Q’s Community Investment Manager.
