Campaign: To break the silence surrounding sexual abuse.

It was a few months after I split up with my long-term boyfriend that I realised he had raped me.

We were in a secure and loving relationship, and I thought we would be together forever.

However, he had sex with me repeatedly despite me telling him that I did not want to.

It didn’t occur to me at the time that this was sexual abuse, I thought it was normal.

It was only later when we had separated and I spoke to a counsellor, that I realsed that he had raped me.

I didn’t really tell anyone about what happened to me because there is so much stigma surrounding the subject.

My experience shows that there is no such thing as a ‘typical’ rape.  I wasn’t attacked by a violent stranger in an alleyway, instead I was abused by the person I loved the most.

I decided to make a film with Fixers to help young people understand that sexual abuse can happen to anyone and to encourage people to speak out about it.
