Campaign: To show others that history can be interactive and engaging

I’ve always been fascinated by history and heritage and want others to take an interest in the subject.

I believe young people aren’t always that enthusiastic about it – perhaps because they don’t realise that it can be interactive and engaging.

With Fixers and the rest of my team, I’m working on a campaign to try to make history more accessible and appealing to a younger audience.

I want to show others my age that heritage projects and activities like geocaching are a fun and interesting way to learn about the past.

Here is a list of Fixers helping me with this Fix:

Ashley Bradshaw Douglas Barrett
Jennifer Palmer Jonathon Nicklen
Josh Seward Kayleigh Purvis
Lucy Armstrong Michael Taylor
Rosie Silk Sian Sullivan

The Keep Military Museum

Chris Copson, Curator of the Keep Military Museum, supports my project. He agreed to be interviewed to appear in my broadcast piece.

Dorset Youth Association

The team at Dorset Youth Association support my Fix. They’ve helped me with other heritage projects in the past.

October 2015

I interviewed Dan Snow, British television presenter and historian in the Dorset County Museum where he was filming for his new documentary on Vikings.

As well as discussing with him the importance of engaging young people in history, we talked about how these objectives could be met using modern media.

June 2015
I gave a presentation about our project and showed our TV film to members of the Dorset History Network. They loved the booklet we produced with the help of Fixers – copies were snapped up on the day!

May 2015
I facilitated a workshop at Learning South West. During this session I introduced geocaching and discussed how to make history relevant for young people.
