Name: Elesha Turner
Age: 21
Year of the Fix: 2015
Location: Hastings, East Sussex
Campaign: To encourage a better representation of disabled models in the fashion industry

I feel that people with disabilities tend to be excluded from the fashion industry.

In 2013 I was diagnosed with bone cancer, and was later treated for a tumour in my leg.

It meant having half the bones in my leg removed and replaced with titanium. I now have a scar and have had to learn to walk again. I’m still going through that process now.

Prior to my diagnosis, people had suggested I try modelling, but after my surgery I felt those in the industry were no longer interested.

With Fixers, I want to show that models with disabilities should feature on the catwalk as a matter of course – not just as a gimmick.

If fashion doesn’t represent a diverse range of people, then it’s not a fair reflection of society.

Here is a list of Fixers helping me with my Fix:

Anna Vegio-White

Ashley Stephen

Jade Davis

Sophie Foster

Angel Sinclair, Founder, Models of Diversity

Angel Sinclair has supported my Fixers project. She agreed to be interviewed to appear in my broadcast film.

Brighton University Fashion and Textile Design, Hastings Campus

Lecturers Dr Caterina Radvan and Dr Vikki Haffenden as well as students Anna Veglio-White and Sophie Liengaard Foster from Brighton University have supported my Fix. They appeared in my broadcast piece, offering their thoughts on the representation of disabled models in the fashion industry.

Photographer Adam Van Bunnes

Adam - who took time to help for my broadcast - used me in a photoshoot which was then filmed for my television appearance.

Hair and Beauty students from Sussex Coast College Hastings

Thank you to Celina Zomer and Nichola Stannard for using their skills helping me prepare for a photoshoot.
