Campaign: To show young people the importance of education

When I was 13, I started playing truant from school.  I got into a lot of trouble.

Letting this happen was a mistake. I realise now that a good education is very important, especially as you get older.

My views on studying have completely changed.  I’ve recently started a health and social care course, not just because I feel I need to learn, but also because I want to.

I hope to become a role model for my two sisters and with Fixers, want to encourage other young people to make the most of school and the opportunities it offers.

If I can prevent others from making the same bad decisions I made, my campaign will have been a success.

Here is a list of Fixers helping me with my Fix:

Ryan Payne Thomas Fanteth
Danielle Ward Sammy Jo Hooper
Sarah Humphrey Kevin Ray
David Bauchham Aiden Poole
Leanne Hooper Chanel Purchase
Gary Holland Meakin Brookshawe

Youth Social Action Fund
My Fixers project is supported by the Cabinet Office’s Youth Social Action Fund.

As part of the Cabinet Office initiative ‘Step Up to Serve’, which is spearheaded by HRH the Prince of Wales, Fixers is working in partnership with the Youth Social Action Fund (YSAF) to offer the Fixer experience specifically to young people aged between 16 and 20 in Birmingham and parts of Kent.

Restoration Youth
The team at Restoration Youth have backed our Fixers project and allowed us to film parts of my TV story at their offices. Dan Pyke, the Director of the Charity, also agreed to be interviewed to appear in my broadcast piece. Tony Duke, Lead Tutor, encouraged me back into formal education, and Jimmy Beezy has helped me along the way by teaching a music class that I attend.

Councillor Mark Ellen, Swale Borough Council
Councillor Ellen is supporting our project. He has offered to attend the launch of our Fixers film when it’s ready.

Canterbury College, Swale Campus

I take courses at the College and they allowed us to film parts of my broadcast story at their Swale Campus.
