Campaign: To encourage those with mental health issues to speak out

Anyone who has had a mental health problem will know that it can be one of the hardest things ever.

When you have such a condition, it can seem like you’re totally alone and that there is nothing left for you to feel happy about.

Having lived with anxiety and depression, I personally feel that the topic is still a taboo subject amongst young people and isn’t discussed openly.

Many think that such issues won’t affect them, but it can happen to anyone.

With the help of Fixers, I’m campaigning to support others like me, so they don’t feel alone and know help is available.

I hope my project will not only get those who have mental health conditions to speak out, but also educate others about such illnesses so they can provide better support to those who have them.

I have written a blog post for the Get Connected website, which discusses my experiences with anxiety and depression, as well as my Fixers poster campaign. Click here to read!

Since launching my Fix online, I've received a lot of positive feedback. Here is what some people had to say about my 'Reach Out, You're Not Alone' poster campaign:

Mary: 'Know that feeling. Well done! It's about time people's feelings about this stigma changed and they realised that someone they care about very much could be affected.'

Catherine: 'This is amazing Laura, well done. I really admire you for speaking about your experience. Hopefully many others will gain the confidence to do the same and let stigma be a thing of the past.'

Ainslie: 'This really made my day a bit easier after a really tough one...mental health is something people don't understand, because they physically see nothing wrong. This was really brave to put it out there, thank you."
