Campaign: To raise awareness of the challenges faced by young transgender people

I am a young transgender person, going through early transition from female to male.

It’s not an easy journey. In fact, it can be very difficult to come to terms with who you really are.

As well as feelings of self-loathing, I’ve had to contend with public reaction, discrimination and prejudice.

With Fixers, I want to raise awareness of the challenges faced by young transgender people.

I hope that with more discussion and a better understanding, people will become accepting of the trans community.

I also want to make sure that others like me realise they’re not alone.

('Zack' is not my real name, because I would like to remain anonymous.)

Michelle McMorrow, LGBT Youth and Community Worker at Bristol City Council, has helped with my Fix. She supported me as I developed my ideas and helped facilitate my meetings with Fixers.

September 2014

My Fixers film was shared on the Wipe Out Transphobia Facebook page. The film now has well over 2,400 views on YouTube and has received many positive comments, including:

'Wow. So moved by this film. Thank you for sharing your story, Zack. It will make a difference.'

'Dude, you are officially one of the coolest people I have ever heard of. You have all my love and support. It's not your body that defines you, it's who you are on the inside. I have a lot of trans friends, and I can tell you, you have support all over the world. Massive love from the USA.'

'Well done. Hopefully some will find comfort in knowing there are others that go through the same things.'
